How it all started
Erwin Hills Wayside Furniture is a local, family owned business dating back to July of 1970 when owner, Terry Braswell, was living in Greensboro, North Carolina. After serving as sergeant with the Army in World War II, Terry was working at a freight line in Winston Salem where he saw furniture coming in routinely. His entrepreneur spirit and desire for his family to live the American Dream, he took a chance and purchased their first shipment of furniture at wholesale. Their first store opened in 1966 in Greensboro, North Carolina just steps away from the furniture capital of the world, High Point. Terry and Molly enjoyed success in Greensboro and began their family; welcoming Tom, Doug, Teresa, and Mike.
This store was a two story building where Terry and Molly carried furniture up and down stairs daily so when Molly’s parents offered them a tract of land in Asheville for a brand new (one level!) furniture store they accepted without hesitation. This store opened in July of 1970 and is the same location that still operates today! With Terry & Molly and three out of the four children still living within 1 mile of the store, this family has been a pillar of the Erwin Hills community for nearly 50 years.
These days you can still find Terry and Molly at their store, serving their customers and sharing their wealth of knowledge from nearly 50 years in the furniture business. Their three sons; Tom, Doug, and Mike, are all full time employees at the store and would be happy to help you find the perfect piece of furniture. This store has very literally been a daily part of the entire lives and you won't find anyone more knowledgable than the Braswell family when it comes to furniture.
